Occupational Health & Safety

Occupational Health & Safety is a cross-disciplinary area concerned with protecting the safety,
health and welfare of people engaged in work or employment. The goal of all occupational health
and safety programs is to foster a safe work environment. It may involve interactions among many
subject areas, including Accident Theory, Environmental Practices, Ergonomics, Fire Prevention
and Protection, Health & Wellness, HSE Auditing, Law & Ethics, Occupational Hygiene,
OHS&E Management Systems, Risk Management, and Safety Techniques and Technology.

• Audits - Standards, Compliance and Due Diligence
The general definition of an audit is an evaluation of a person, organization, system, process,
enterprise, project or product. The term most commonly refers to audits in accounting, but similar
concepts also exist in project management, quality management, environmental management and
for occupational health & safety. Standards used will vary depending on regulatory issues, preferred
standards or industry "best practices".

• Program Development
Designing customized or unique solutions for superior sustainable results.

• Program Implementation
Providing assistance in the implementation of desired Programs to positively affect continuous
improvement.

> Safe Work Procedures
- Assistance with writing SWP or training staff to be able to write effective SWP.
> Accident / Incident Investigations

Environmental Policy is any course of action deliberately taken or not taken to manage human activities with a view to prevent, reduce, or mitigate harmful effects on nature and natural resources, and ensuring that man-made changes to the environment do not have harmful effects on humans.

• Hazard Identification
Developing a systematic observation and identification of unsafe conditions, at-risk behaviors, and underlying management system weaknesses that if permitted to continue may lead to employee injury or illness and loss in production.

• Risk Assessments
The development of the reporting and decision making system required to act on all identified hazards.

• Control Plans
The development of a program to ensure that the action and follow up process are completed to ensure that all applicable hazards are eliminated or controlled.
